“Peter de Mets is someone who truly cares about music and theater. He maintains an unswervingly high standard and always strives for excellence in his directing, teaching, performing, and writing. He has learned the ins and outs of the idiom of handbells very quickly, writing truly fine music for the instrument. Above all, Peter has a genuine spirit for his work, with forward-looking ideas and a long list of strong talents.”

“Peter is truly a gem of a musician and composer.  He cares about the depth, direction and dynamics of each commission.  Peter’s music is heartfelt, passionate and accessible.  Most critical to the creative process is Peter’s ease in collaboration.  It is always a joy to work with him on a newly commissioned work.”

“It does the heart good to see the ancient virtues of ingenuity and industry go hand-in-hand in a modern landscape. The cohabitation of human voice and handbells is especially fitting in de Mets' blend of the old and the new.”

“I had the honor of conducting the premiere of Peter's “Sing! An Ode to Music” for double SATB choir. He was a pleasure to work with: clear, communicative, and open to the needs of the ensemble. He has such an obvious joy and passion for bringing music to life, which really shines in his work.”

“My choirs have been blessed to work with Peter de Mets on several occasions and have had wonderful experiences. Peter is an outstanding composer and understands how to write for choirs to help them sound their best.  He has a wonderful personality and is engaging and fun in his interactions with students.  Peter is willing to collaborate with the conductor to create works that are tailored to the ensemble.  He is very caring in his work as a composer and in his interactions with people.  I highly recommend him to all choirs.”

“Peter de Mets is a fine collaborator with musicians of all ages. On several occasions he has engaged with my students at both the middle school and high school levels, fully including them in their part of the creative process, and being most attentive to their developmental and educational needs.  The quality of his work is both exceptional and, more importantly, memorable.”

“We commissioned Peter for a work at the Morrisville Presbyterian Church (PA).  Peter was very professional to work with, and very understanding to meet the needs of the choir and performing forces.  We ended up with a wonderful Easter anthem that will be used many times in the future.”

“Peter de Mets, Youth Stages' composer-in-residence, Peter has created musical scores for a number of original productions with high school students. An original score would be noteworthy in any respect, but these works are even more significant as they were created for and with high school students at Carrier Foundation.
Working with adolescents with emotional and psychological difficulties can be challenging, but Peter has a terrific, calming manner about him. He respects young people, their ideas and creativity, and works with them to create music that they are comfortable singing and presenting to an audience. On several occasions students brought him poems they wrote for their character and he put their words to music. How fabulous is that for a troubled teen to sing one's own song in a performance..talk about raising self-esteem!'
